Local manufacturer Munster Simms Engineering Ltd (known by brand name Whale) has been awarded the top Manufacturing Company Award at the Bangor Business Awards Gala event.
The company design, rapid prototype, manufacture, distribute and market Whale® branded water and heating systems globally, from their base in Bangor, Co. Down. Whale® is an international brand supplying the leisure marine, RV, domestic shower drainage and industrial industries around the world. The Whale® products include pumps (both manual and electric), plumbing fittings, water and space heaters, tap, showers and accessories.
The team is delighted to have been recognised in the awards particularly with such strong competition in the category. Whale was particularly commended for its dedication to local manufacturing and strong team ethos.
Production Manager, Jim McCullough was delighted, commenting: “Winning this prestigious award is a great representation of the dedication of every member of our skilled workforce. Everyone at Whale goes above and beyond on a daily basis, and that is reflected in the high quality product we manufacture.”
Whale was also praised for their continual investment in the local workforce and supply base. The next 12 months look to be very exciting for Whale with the opening of a Technology and Polymer Centre on Enterprise Road, Bangor and increased investment in machinery. The current factory in Bangor is 48,000ft² and the new facility gives the company an additional 36,000ft². This new additional building allows for expansion of the company’s testing laboratory and plastic injection mould shop while expanding the current facilities in line with increase demand.
During the last 12 months, MSE has also invested in the latest Rapid Prototyping Machines. The company’s trained rapid prototype engineers take an initial CAD model to produce prototyped parts at speed. The machines produce accurate, functionally compliant and highly finished components in a wide spectrum of density and can create models combining both plastic and rubber parts. This accelerates research and design processes bringing conceptions to market quicker than ever before. Therefore the next 12 months will see continual investment in research and design focussing on technological advancements in all the markets the company supplies.
