Whale Are Caravanners!

Q&A with Whale Engineering Director and Caravanner Richard Bovill

Whale Engineering Director Richard Bovill has been at Whale for over 13 years. During his time at the company he has developed a love for caravanning and the great outdoors! He enjoys taking regular trips with his wife Alison and two young daughters Evie (aged 11) and Mia (aged 8).

Richard took the time to sit down with us recently to tell us more about his favourite destinations as well as sharing some useful hints and tips for when you are away.

Type of Recreational Vehicle: Caravan

Make and Model of Caravan: Bailey Pageant

Who do you go caravanning with? When we go away we like to get together with both family and friends. When we all go away together there can be up to 6 caravans at a time! The great thing about caravanning is that you don’t need to plan a trip too far in advance, you have the flexibility to pack up and head off without a moment’s notice. Our first trip of the year is February half term and the last is Halloween so we really do make the most of the season. Caravanning is a great opportunity to force time out from busy life and time with the family.

Where is your favourite place to visit? Our favourite place to visit close to home in Northern Ireland is the Drumaheglis Marina and Caravan Park along the Causeway Coast & Glens. With breath-taking scenery, such as the famous Dark Hedges from the smash hit TV show Game of Thrones, only 30 minutes away, you can’t really complain. The park also has fantastic facilities including activities to keep the kids entertained and a beautiful nature walk on site. Find out more about the Drumaheglis Marina and Caravan Park here - https://www.causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk/see-do/caravan-parks/drumaheglis-marina-and-caravan-park. Further afield, we’ve always been a fan of Cornwall in England. There are a number of fantastic parks to choose from and you are always guaranteed the weather. Sun, surf and exciting attractions…Cornwall has it all!

Where is the one place you’ve always wanted to visit? We’ve always wanted to take the ‘van to France for a trip. We have friends who visit every year and we’ve heard nothing but good things. An adventure outside the UK and Ireland is an exciting prospect so it is definitely on my bucket list! Any destination suggestions from the caravan community are very much welcomed.

What do you love most about your caravan? I must admit, you can’t beat family time on a caravanning holiday, playing Monopoly late into a summers night outside with my girls! Also, awning parties with groups of friends are the best when the kids are in bed and the adults can just sit back and relax. Maybe I’m biased but we really would be stuck without all the fantastic Whale products we get to use and test during our life on the road. My wife Alison has accepted that I like to take my work on holiday and the friends we caravan with are always interested to find out what new gadgets have been fitted to the van!

What advice would you give to other caravanners? Firstly, my advice to anyone with a caravan, motorhome or panel van would be to use it as much as possible! Secondly, make sure you buy a Whale Watermaster Mains water hook up and have an endless supply of fresh water! It’s incredibly easy to use and means you don’t need to carry water around or use up valuable battery power.

What Whale products do you have installed in your van? We have several Whale products fitted in the van including:

Here at Whale we take pride in the products we develop, always having the caravanner in mind. Make sure you follow us on social media to keep up to date with all of our caravanning adventures and to get hints and tips from our experts!
