Whale are Caravanners!

RV Key Account Technical Sales Engineer, Steed Barbour, has worked at Whale since 2004. During the business week he regularly travels across the Irish Sea to customers in mainland UK but at the weekends he likes to keep it local, exploring Northern Ireland in his ‘Mighty Autoquest’. Read about his adventures and where his love of caravanning comes from below.

Type of Leisure Vehicle: Motorhome

Make and model of vehicle: Elddis Autoquest 180

Where did your love for caravanning come from? I first went caravanning with my mum, dad and sister in the early 1980s when I was a young boy. My parents introduced me to the great outdoors and embedded a sense of adventure into me. I have very fond memories of travelling to Fintra Bay in Donegal in our caravan and I’m glad I’ve kept their legacy alive.

Who do you like to holiday with? First and foremost I like to get away with my family. My wife Joy and I like to take our 2 dogs, Bonnie and Brodie, and escape for the weekend. We also like to catch up with friends when we’re away and regularly meet up with other Whale employees at various sites around the country.

Where is your favourite place to visit? We have so many favourite places it’s hard to choose just one! Tollymore  Forest Caravan Park in Newcastle is known for its scenic surroundings, backed impressively by the beautiful Mourne mountains and as such is used as one of the main filming locations for Game of Thrones! Benone Caravan Park is situated between the sea and Binevenagh Mountain offering the best of both worlds. Our last trip took us to Clare Glen on the banks of Cusher River; a 55 acre country retreat and a magical wildlife haven for both discovery and escape. Wherever we go, we certainly make the most of getting out and about!

What is the one place that is on your bucket list? We’ve always wanted to travel to Italy. I’ve been following @thegreygappers on Twitter who have been touring through Europe in their Elddis Encore and after reading their latest blog ‘From Sicily to the 'toe' of Italy’, it’s definitely inspired me!

What do you love most about having a motorhome? I love the fact that your holiday starts as soon as you turn the key. You don’t have to travel to an airport or spend hours on a flight or a boat, you’re on holiday as soon as you leave your front door!

What do you love most about your Elddis Autoquest 180 motorhome? The best thing about the ‘Mighty Autoquest’ is the amount of space it gives you. With underfloor products and a well thought-out internal layout, it has loads of storage space meaning it’s very practical and doesn’t restrict what you can bring away with you. With two dogs we need as much space as we can get!

What Whale products are installed in your van? It’s great to have a vehicle I can test our Whale products on. This enables me to experience the products first-hand and provide invaluable feedback to our engineers at our Bangor factory. The products I have fitted in my van at the moment are the Aquasource Clear Water Filter which removes unpleasant tastes and smells from the water in my tank, our High Capacity 13 Litre Water Heater and the new space saving 4kw Underfloor Space Heater.

Here at Whale we take pride in the products we develop, always having the caravanner in mind. Make sure you follow us on social media to keep up to date with all our caravanning adventures and to get hints and tips from our experts!
